Worship Leading

Worship Leading

One volunteer opportunity I've been engaged in since my freshman year of high school has been helping to lead worship at the various church and fellowship groups I've been privileged to take part in. Excelling in worship leadership requires not only musical skill, but a genuine love for God and those in the congregation, as well as comfort and confidence in a very public position. Naturally, this is a role I don't have as much photographic evidence of, since while I'm in front the hope is that phones and cameras aren't out, but a few moments from events with Grace on Campus, my college christian fellowship, were captured below. My capacities for service in this role have included leading youth group worship for two years, and for Grace on Campus, a Christian club at UCLA of about 200 people, for the last two years of undergrad. It's an activity that I know glorifies the Lord, serves and encourages those around me, and helps me foster a heart of humble leadership.

Alaska Mission Trips

Alaska Mission Trips

One of the experiences in my life I consider to be the most spiritually and personally formative in my interactions with others has been the three summers I've spent at Kokrine Hills Bible Camp in central Alaska. I could write for pages about this camp and the ways it's changed me, but in short, native Alaskan kids are flown in from villages all around Alaska to have a summer camp experience where they partake in activities from basketball to skeet shooting to mud fights (the consequences of which are pictured below).
Personally, this camp taught me how to love people even when they're acting in a way not conducive to loving them; in a way, it was like learning to be a parent for two weeks, as blasphemous as that sounds. We accompanied our cabin of eight campers everywhere: through meals, activities, bible lessons, and led small group discussions in the evening, finally going to bed somewhere around 2 a.m., waking up before 7 the next morning. On top of the "camp counselor" duties, I likewise led worship for the whole camp prior to the lesson times, which required planning sets, practicing with the band, and so forth. The physical exhaustion, emotional investment, and spiritual exertion required for this trip made it some of the most trying and rewarding times in my life. Below, I attached a few snapshots of my experience up at Kokrine Hills (And yes, I pretty much wore that sweatshirt for the entire time).
